An announcement by the Pope on the 6th of January took many by surprise when amongst the newly chosen to be cardinals there was a Maltese Augustinian monk. Fr Prospero Grech is a highly respected professor of theology and has lectured in universities such as the Pontifical Biblical Institute and the Lateran University. This is quite a big deal for our tiny island since Prof. Grech is only the second Cardinal to be of Maltese origin. On the 8th of February he was ordained Bishop by the Archbishop of Malta. I have had the honor to contribute a little to this occasion as you can see ![]()
