Again Hi! and thanks for coming as far as clicking on the About Me tab
I’m the ‘Al’ in ‘Designed by Al’ and I am a graphic designer. I know – the ending sounds more like some sort of introduction for the A.A. but sometimes design is like that. An urge that cannot be quenched. I began my adventure in graphic design when I was 14, with a 200MHz PC and a wordprocessor and with those tools I managed to produce a heck of a school newsletter, or so they told me. As time passed, my equipment got better and today… well… I must say that my equipment is way better!
After my University years (that had nothing to do with the cause of design) I got a job at one of the busiest design agencies in the country. There I met people that helped me get even better and although sometimes work frustration got the hold of us – deadlines tend to do that to a designer – we had nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for each other.
However after a couple of years I moved on to a different type of medium. I was getting quite interested in large format printing and custom prints on various media and that’s when I began working with DPG (Malta). Here I worked with some of the most dedicated people I ever met.
After some time I got another job at an offset printing press who where impressed by my work. There I got to work with some very interesting clients but, as the wheel always goes round, you cannot be on the upper side all of the time! And at the end of 2009, the company declared that it was closing the printing press. The last months of 2009 where turning quite depressing. However things took a turn when I was informed by the shareholder that I was being transferred to the Secretariat for Catechesis that really needed a graphic designer, and I must say it, I have never been so revved up for work!
Here’s who I am in a few words. I am a member of the Society of Christian Doctrine, better known to most in Malta as ‘MUSEUM’. Faith plays an important part in my life – That’s the reason I studied Theology and Human Studies at the University of Malta – those were some really great days!
As music goes I prefer to listen to movie soundtracks, especially ones from composers such as Hans Zimmer and John Williams, although I do have my ‘rock-days’ – especially when I’m behind deadlines If I had a favorite movie it must be one of Robin Williams or Clint Eastwood’s together with ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ and maybe Star Wars. Actually I’m quite a movie fan and I watch some really cool TV Shows too! Did you ever come across Endgame, The Mentalist, Castle or Alcatraz? They are really some great shows! My Favorite book, well I have a lot of favorite books, but one that stands out is ‘Journey to West’ by Wu Cheng En – if you have never heard of it, google-it-up! Finally I am quite a media enthusiast and, as many of my friends would agree, quite a mac zealot. That’s me in a nutshell.
