’CAUSE DESIGN IS MEANT TO BE SHARED

‘Xehda Għasel’ is a long-running magazine for youth. Distributed in a growing number of schools and in all the M.U.S.E.U.M. centres, this magazine aims to instill in the young generation a love of reading and knowledge while helping them understand the beauty of the Christian faith and life.

In every town and village in our country, the village festa is probably the greatest highlight of the year. And every year, the festa season starts the day you receive the annual publication with the programme of activities. These last years I have been involved in the design of the front cover of this yearly publication for the village of Dingli.

The idea behind this centre is to be an oasis of peace in an otherwise hectic life. So when designing its web presence, I wanted to convey this same idea of peace and calm. Keeping information as short as possible was key and the wonderful photography by Alan Carville helped a lot. The final product is a site that truly shows the beauty of this place. Take a look yourself on www.ilhaninsamaritan.com

This album is the result of some very good work by a group of dedicated people working with the Diocesan Commission for Children and the Jubilate Choir, and so I needed to match these beautiful original songs with colourful and equally beautiful artwork.

Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future.

Here in the Maltese Islands, almost every church holds great treasures of art and architecture. One such case is the beautiful priory and church of Saint Mark just outside the old capitol of Mdina. With a history of almost 600 years, the community of the augustinian monks have been a steadfast example of faith and love. This tiny publication that I worked have been working on with the Augustinian community is a witness to all this history.

This project took quite some time to do but it was worth all the work. The augustinian monks at the monastery were a joy to work with, and with some beautiful contributions from a Maltese prominent artist, John Martin Borg, the final product really looks amazing. Feel free to browse a little on www.agostinjani.org

Every great design begins with an even better story.

Awakening Asaph was a special project for me since some of the artist features in this compilation are good friends of mine. So you can imagine the amount of work it took me to get a packaging that really was as inspirational as the music inside.

An announcement by the Pope on the 6th of January took many by surprise when amongst the newly chosen to be cardinals there was a Maltese Augustinian monk. Fr Prospero Grech is a highly respected professor of theology and has lectured in universities such as the Pontifical Biblical Institute and the Lateran University. This is quite a big deal for our tiny island since Prof. Grech is only the second Cardinal to be of Maltese origin. On the 8th of February he was ordained Bishop by the Archbishop of Malta. I have had the honor to contribute a little to this occasion as you can see

School textbooks are usually boring, full of never-ending text and quite unappealing, to say the least. Its like whoever designs them takes extra care of making them dull and uninteresting. I hope that’s not the case with this book. Thanks to the great teachers that contributed a lot in the making of the main text, Tazia Hall who has done almost all the illustrations and my design talents (how humble!) I believe this publication turned out to be quite awesome.

Academic publications are usually quite boring. Magazines on the other side rarely have any … content. ‘Gwida għal min jgħallem’ is an attempt to break the rule. Featuring some of the main experts in Malta in the field of evangelisation and catechesis, this publication is becoming quite a resource for those involved in teaching and evangelisation.
